Life...3 hours at a time

Elias is nearly 2 months old now...time has flown by!!  I'm learning lots of things about life, but Chad put it perfectly the other day when he told his mom, "Cassie lives life 3 hours at a time."  I have begun to get used to this schedule and make the most of my "free" time in between feedings.  But, with Eli eating every 3 hours, with a feeding taking about 1/2 hr...this leaves me with 2 1/2 hrs of time to get anything accomplished that I need to during the day.

Eli and I are getting a little more "skilled" at breastfeeding, which makes public feedings slightly more doable.  I've only fed him a few times in open public and always in a pretty discreet location (excluding the mall's nursing room or a study room at the library...these have become some of my favorite places to visit because I don't have to feel rushed to get home to feed him).  But, any errands that needs run or laundry than needs done or meals that need prepared or showers that need taken all happen in the 2 1/2 free hours.  Of course in those hours I also play with Eli, change diapers, dress him, bathe him, comfort his cries and laugh with his smiles.  I knew all these things were part of being a mom, but balancing it all and maintaining sanity, not to mention good communication with my husband, is another story.

I love being a mom and enjoy every minute I get with my son.  Plus I have a really great baby who tolerates being toted from place to place and passed from person to person...he travels well and often sleeps in crowds or in the car, I am thankful for his happy personality and great temperament!  But I have to admit, only sleeping for those couple hours at a time is beginning to wear on me.  Eli is starting to sleep for a little longer at night, maybe 4-5 hrs between feedings, but only for the first stretch.  After that he wants to eat again in 3 hrs.  So, i'm hoping in the next month he will continue to sleep longer and longer...from what I hear 3 months is a magic number for sleeping through the night and getting better at breastfeeding, we'll see...i'll keep you posted.
